where I come from, stagnant water is only safe if it's glacial. runoff will pool and fester, spawning only the worst parasites. but even the rivers aren't safe when the swill gets too thick. if you drill down you're more likely to hit liquid gold than any well source.
boil advisories for near neighbors. streams that speak to you. terraforms cleaved and softened by age-old melt flows. surface riddled with holes who fill with thick pitch. and the tang of iron in the air.
